Leadership Summit 2007
Day 1 - ... continued.

A crowd favorite at this year's Summit and another Presidential hopeful taking time out of his busy campaign schedule for our Collegians, Rep. Ron Paul (TX) spoke on how events happening in Washington and around the country have direct impacts on the freedoms we enjoy. Are We Losing Our Liberty? focused on freedom vs. security in a post-9/11 world.

Con. Virgil Goode(VA), one of the few knowledgeable Congressman on the North American Union and Security and Prosperity Partnership, spoke to our Summit asking the question, Is A North American Union In Our Future? Offering up the scary facts behind the ideas, Con. Goode opened the eyes of many of the students who had never heard - or even imagined - such a treacherous plan to destroy our sovereignty.

Earning an "A" rating and winning the "Taxpayer's Friend Award" from the National Taxpayers' Union, Rep. Todd Akin (MO) lived up to his reputation when he spoke on Looking At Taxes. By showing the wasteful spending practices of the government, Rep. Akin argued that lowered spending would lead to more tax cuts, which leads to a better economy.

Rep. John "Jimmy" Duncan (TN), serving from a district which has been held continuously by Republicans since 1857, dropped by to discuss the ups, and downs, of being Conservative in Congress.
Another member of the Tennessee delegation, Rep. Marsha Blackburn (TN), discussed the basics of Being A Leader in Your Community. A lifelong Republican, Rep. Blackburn has exemplified her leadership skills on many fronts, not just in Congress. She is considered by many a rising star and should be someone Eagle Forum Collegians can expect to hear a lot more from.

The final group of speakers was a student panel made up of students from Georgia Tech, University of Missouri, and Mount Holyoke College. They talked about their personal struggles with liberalism on their campuses and how they've fought - and beat - the politically correct establishment!

After our traditional Pizza Party at Union Station, we traveled to the recently dedicated Victims' of Communism Memorial. As a special treat, the man who raised the money and orchestrated its creation, Lee Edwards, joined us to tell his story and share his motivations for getting this memorial built.
